:: AUDREY ::
Breed: Shepherd Mix Gender: Female
Audrey is a shepherd mix who came to me starved and on the verge of death while trying to nurse 8 pups! Now, she is a friendly dog, albeit somewhat nervous meeting new people, who loves belly rubs and ear scratches! She has filled out nicely – and even when starving literally to death – is one of the most gentle dogs taking food that you’d ever want to meet. She is not at all food aggressive, either, which is miraculous given her condition when she arrived.

Audrey (so named because of her long neck like Audrey Hepburn) is now a playful, happy dog who loves playing with her canine companions. She’s great with kids after she gets to know them. She’ll just retreat if she’s nervous. She likes having a place to hide her head (because we can’t see her then, you know!) if she thinks anyone is angry or if she’s afraid, but she generally is just happy to have a home, food, and companionship that loves her.

Audrey is a quick learner and knows how to let herself in and out of the back door so she’ll easily learn to use a doggie door. She loves playing with toys and chewing rawhides. Be aware, she has to have stuffed toys and/or rawhides or she’ll find something else to chew! She’s still a young dog…maybe a year and a half? She’ll outgrow that inclination, especially if you keep her exercised and busy. She is housetrained, but would be best with a dog door.

Audrey is very easily handled for any grooming or nail clipping. She’ll let you “manhandle” her in any way you need all while very docilely just laying there. She’s learning to be on a leash, but this is not yet her favorite thing. Something about it frightens her, so you have to be very patient in teaching her about this. Please understand that while she has come a long way, she still has a ways to go before losing all her fear of people and new situations.

She is, up to date on shots and now spayed. She’d love to have you give her a permanent home to call her own, preferably with another dog to play with. Her two best friends, Roger and Gracie, are both also up for adoption. Isn’t it time this poor abused girl got her own people to love?
